The National Soil Quality Observation and Research Station in Changping, Beijing, was established in 1987 as one of the eight national long-term monitoring bases for soil fertility and fertilizer effects in China. It was identified as a national key field observation and experiment station in 1999 and named by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (formerly known as the Ministry of Agriculture of China) as the Key Field Observation and Experiment Station on the Meadow Cinnamon Soil Ecological Environment in Changping (Changping Meadow Cinnamon Soil Station) in 2005. In 2019, the Changping Meadow Cinnamon Soil Station and the National Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Effects Long-term Monitoring Network merged into the National Soil Quality Field Observation and Research Station in Changping, Beijing.

The station's main research areas are agricultural resources and the environment, with a focus on soil fertility and environmental quality and soil ecological quality evolution and regulation. The research covers the law of fertility evolution and driving mechanisms of different types of soil, soil-environmental material exchange and regulation, farmland biodiversity and regulation, soil quality and agricultural product safety, and soil quality evaluation methods.

The station has 11 employees, including 8 technology-based personnel, and 3 supporting staff. It is one of the scientific research platform and educational practice base for China’s eight major soil bases and more than 20 universities.
