The Key Laboratory of Microbial Resources Collection and Preservation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (formerly known as the Ministry of Agriculture of China) was established in 2011. It is a specialized/regional key laboratory under the discipline cluster of agricultural microbial resources utilization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Based on the national strategic needs of agricultural microbial germplasm resources, the laboratory focuses on basic and applied research on the collection, preservation and utilization of agricultural microbial resources, development and application of microbial fertilizers, edible fungi resources and breeding, microbial fertilizer, and edible fungus strain quality as well as safety testing and evaluation technology.

The research covers mining new agricultural microbial resources, the mechanisms of plant-microbe-soil interaction, the molecular mechanisms in the formation of important agronomic characters of edible fungi, and the efficacy of edible fungi and microbial fertilizer products.

The key laboratory has 38 staff, including 10 professors and 16 associate professors. Of them, 21 have doctoral degrees and nine have master’s degrees. Their specializations include microbiology, plant protection, plant nutrition and fertilizers, and bioengineering.
