Soil and Fertilizer Experiment Base in Jinxian, CAAS

IARRP | Updated: 2021-07-08

The Soil and Fertilizer Experiment Base of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province was established in 2011. The base is located on the south bank of Poyang Lake and in the middle of the hilly area south of the Yangtze River. Featuring low hilly terrain and quaternary red clay soil, it boasts typical landforms, geology, and soil in the hilly red soil area of regions south of the Yangtze River.

The base provides scientific and technical support for the comprehensive management of medium and low-yield fields in the red soil area as well as its ecological environment restoration and reconstruction. It conducts research on monitoring of fertility evolution of cultivated red soil, efficient management of crop nutrients, soil fertility, and degraded soil improvement.

Since the establishment of the station, the base has conducted significant key research on the current status and evolution characteristics of the fundamental fertility of red soil and paddy soil, the integrated demonstration of improvement technologies for barren and low-yield paddy fields in central China, improvement technologies for low-yield paddy soils in southern China, the ecological effects of typical slow/controlled release fertilizer coating materials on red paddy soil, the fertility characteristics of dry and paddy soils in southern hilly areas and comprehensive fertilization techniques, the nitrogen-saving effect of urease inhibitors in red paddy fields, and the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizer use under different planting densities of rice.
